124 inducted as constables during passing-out parade

SHILLONG: As many as 116 men and 8 women recruits from across the state were inducted as constables in Meghalaya Police during a passing-out parade of the 6th MLP Battalion, Umran, held at the Meghalaya Police Academy, Umran, on Tuesday by following all health protocols related to COVID-19.
A total of 124 personnel of the 2nd Batch Basic Training Recruit Constables, who underwent a rigorous basic training module for 44 weeks, graduated on the day.
In his speech, Meghalaya DGP, R Chandranathan, who was the chief guest of the occasion, welcomed the recruits to state police and congratulated the trainees and the faculty for the immaculate drill exhibition. He also encouraged the trainees to keep on learning and acquiring the skills required for enforcing the law as police officials are more accountable.
Recruit constables, who were awarded for their exemplary performance during the training period included Pentune R Marak (Best Trainee in Physical Training), Jigash I Sangma (Best Trainee in Drill), Doloris Pariong (Best Trainee in Outdoor Subjects), Makri Dkhar (Best Discipline Trainee), Davy John Suciang (Best Trainee in Musketry) and Sporningstar Kharpuri (All Round Best Trainee).
Commemoration Day
Meanwhile, the state police along with police forces from all over the country will observe the ‘Commemoration Day’ October 21 in remembrance of the supreme sacrifice and valour of 10 bravehearts who were martyred (on October 21, 1959) at the Hot Springs in Ladakh.
In Meghalaya, all districts/units will observe the Commemoration Day and Police Flag Day at the district headquarters; wreaths will be placed at every memorial site in each headquarter and the names of the martyrs will be read out on the day. Photographs of the martyrs as well as printable version of the police flag will be displayed at the respective headquarters.
