Implementation of Inter-state Migrant Workmen Act stressed

 NONGSTOIN: The West Khasi Hills administration on Thursday held a meeting with the representatives of various NGOs to discuss implementation of the Inter-state Migrant Workmen Act, 1979.

The Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills S Kharlyngdoh presided over the meeting, which was attended by the representatives of FKJGP, West Khasi Hills Students’ Union, HANM, Western Youth Federation and officials from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.

Representatives from the road construction company — BSC C&C JV, were also present at the meeting.

In the meeting the NGOs demanded that the labourers and others that come to work in the state from other states should have in their possession valid documents such as EPIC, ration cards, birth certificate or any document issued by any competent authority that establishes their identity.

Representatives of the BSC C&C JV agreed to follow this.

After the meeting Kharlyngdoh thanked the participants especially the NGOs for their co-operation and understanding the importance and the need for the quick completion of the NH 44 (E).
