SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) central body has come down heavily on those spreading hate messages and issuing threats from outside Meghalaya against the Khasi community.
In a statement issued here, the HYC expressed its ire over such recent communal attacks.
Referring to the Ichamati violence, the organisation said that despite videos being circulated showing a number of people carrying weapons, only eight have been arrested so far.
The clash, which happened months ago, had also resulted in the death of a Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) member, Lurshai Hynniewta.
Claiming that there have been no complaints regarding harassment meted out to the religious minority in the state till date, the organisation has warned individuals from outside Meghalaya to not interfere into the internal matters of the state.
The organisation also alleged that the reactions from Assam and West Bengal have connections with the upcoming Assembly polls in West Bengal.
Turning to erstwhile state Governor, Tathagata Roy, the members of the organisation gave the thumb’s down to his remarks over the recent incident and appealed to him to not come out with statements as he is no longer the governor of the state.
Condemning the Legal Observatory Organization’s remarks against the Presbyterian Church, the HYC leaders also asked the former to not bring about any religious division.
Furthermore, the organisation has also condemned the president of All India Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev, for making baseless allegations against the Khasi community.
