SHILLONG: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Executive Member (EM) in-charge of Market, Grace Mary Kharpuri, said there is no intention to construct new market at Mawlai Mawroh but it was just a proposal of the Hima Mylliem, which again is under examination.
Replying to a supplementary query of Congress MDC Carness Sohshang on setting up of markets in every district headquarter that is within the jurisdiction of KHADC, Kharpuri said it all depends on the financial position of the Council.
She further said till date there is also no intention to set up markets in other places. “We are looking forward to such a time when markets will be set up in every district headquarters. But it all depends on the fund position of the District Council,” he said.
Congress MDC Ronnie Lyngdoh raised a query on the problems faced by farmers to which Kharpuri said that a committee has been set up to amend the Market Act and the amendment is in the second stage and will soon progress to the final stage.
“The proposed draft will look into the issues to ease the problems of the farmers”, she said.
