MAWKYRWAT: The locals of Sakwang village along with the Rikhain Lyngdoh Sakwang, a clan than own the land, have expressed concern over the long-pending construction of the District Institute of Education & Training (DIET).
The DIET has been in a state of neglect for more than 8 years with work less than 10 per cent being completed.
Secretary of Rikhain Lyngdoh Sakwang, Shiningstar Kharjahrin, informed that it was in 2012 that Rikhain Lyngdoh Sakwang had donated the land free of cost for construction of DIET, following an agreement with the government.
“We had decided to donate the land for construction of the training centre in a bid to improve education system in our district, which would have also eased the problems of the teachers who have to undergo training in other districts,” Kharjahrin said.
Alleging that the contractors had abruptly ceased the construction work, Kharjahrin said that the Shnong, along with the leaders of Rikhain, had met the authorities, including the deputy commissioner, but to no avail. “Their work has not benefitted anyone but has only destroyed the paddy field due to the flow of the soil during rainy season,” Kharjahrin said.
Requesting the government to expedite the construction of the training centre, Kharjahrin said if the plea remains unheard, the Rikhain along with Sakwang village will have no other option but to take back the donated land.
