Itanagar: Surface communications in three Siang districts of Arunachal Pradesh remained cut-off from rest of the country for the past three days after flash flood washed off a portion of National Highway in between Gogamukh and Dhemaji in Assam.

Following disruption of vital road links, only life-line for East Siang, West Siang and Upper Siang districts, regular supply of essential items to Siang districts and Dhemaji in Assam has come to a screeching halt since Thursday last.

The breach left hundreds of trucks and oil tankers stranded at either side of the highway. However, some small passenger vehicles were plying via Ghilamara-Butikur road. There was possibility that food and other essential items may fall short in the three Siang districts in coming days, if the road was not restored immediately.

Last year too, flood in Gai Nadi breached a large portion of the highway between Dhemaji and Silapathar resulting in acute shortage of food and essential commodities for few months.

Meanwhile, heavy rains since Wednesday badly affected normal life with blocking a number of roads in Upper Siang district, official sources informed here on Saturday.

Major blocks had occurred between Silli and Padu and at Rottung bridge point cutting off Upper Siang with rest of the state. (UNI)
