SHILLONG: Despite the plan to install CCTV cameras in Shillong Jail by Home (jail ) department , additional security cover for the jail was sought from the police by the jail department after GNLA chief Champion was lodged in the prison. To prevent the repeat of the infamous jail break of May 31, 2009, the jail department wanted the police to install mobile jammers inside the jail. They also asked the police to provide wireless sets for jail officials. During 2009, the jailbreak mastermind Fullmoon Dhar had used cell phones to contact people and to arrange pistols to execute the jail break. There was also nexus of some jail staff with Dhar which resulted in the easy escape of seven undertrial prisoners (UTPs). A police official said that the police was committed to ensure proper security in the jail premises since as many as 15 militants were currently lodged in the jail.
