Amendment to Essential Commodities Act

SHILLONG: The state government has notified and re-published in an official gazette the amendment to the Essential Commodities Act 1955, which will come into force with immediate effect, a statement issued here informed.
The decision follows the central government’s order to amend the ‘Removal of Licensing Requirements, Stock Limits and Movement Restrictions on Specified Foodstuffs Order, 2016,’ to be called the ‘Removal of Licensing Requirements, Stock Limits and Movement Restrictions of Specified Foodstuffs (Second Amendment) Order, 2020’.
In the Removal of Licensing Requirements, Stock Limits and Movement Restrictions on Specified Foodstuffs Order, 2016, clause 3, sub-clause (2), after the item (iii), item “(iv) Onion for a period upto the 31st December, 2020 with stock limits of 25 MT for wholesaler and two MT for retailers for all the states and Union Territories, provided that an importer, being a wholesaler or retailer or dealer shall be exempted for the imported stock of onions” has been inserted, the statement added.
