Shillong: Almost three months after her abduction, a girl from Maroit village has finally returned home.
The 18-year-old Hepbaiawanlang Wahlang, who went missing from her village near Mairang on July 25, returned on Saturday after the accused, one Bicky Saikia of Assam, dropped her at Khanapara and surrendered at the Jamugurihat police station in Assam the following day.
According to the girl, Saikia, a merchant, had approached her while she was on her way home from college on July 25. “He asked me to escort him till the sumo stand failing which he threatened to kill himself. Out of fear, I accompanied him and on reaching the sumo stand I was taken to Shillong,” Wahlang said.
“It was there I become nervous and tried to contact my family members. But he destroyed my sim card”, she added.
Stating that her journey has been a dreadful one, the girl said that she had tried to escape on numerous occasions. It was also learnt that the accused tried to force her to marry him.
