SHILLONG, Nov 12: The state BJP has asked the Meghalaya Government to release the pending salaries of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers while threatening to approach Prime Minister’s Office if it continues to be reluctant.
Party vice president Bernard N Marak said that the Centre has released the teacher’s salaries but state government is delaying payment.
Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal that no one should face any difficulty or be deprived of the facilities provided by the Centre, Marak said that in Meghalaya, the central schemes were not implemented properly, which the BJP cannot ignore.
“If the state continues to be reluctant to follow Centre’s directives, BJP will take the matter up with PMO as what is happening on the ground is not as what is being anticipated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
Ponting out that SSA teachers as well as primary school teachers should be treated with dignity with their dues being cleared in time, the saffron party recalled that during lockdown, people in general were badly affected but teachers had to struggle to find ways to ensure education for children. “Many teachers have expressed grievances and disappointments. It is the responsibility of the state leaders to clear the dues of the teachers immediately as the money has already been released from the Centre,” he said.
