TURA, Nov 20: Amid the rising apprehensions in West Garo Hills due to COVID-19 deaths, West Garo Hills Commissioner, Ram Singh, has banned the burning of garbage including dry leaves.
This move by Singh is imperative as the harmful smoke emitted from the fire can make people more susceptible to the virus.
The Tura Municipal Board (TMB), meanwhile, has been directed to collect garbage every morning from locations within Municipal areas and ensure that garbage is not burnt, either by TMB staff or by general public.
Local bodies and development committees have also been directed to ensure that open burning of garbage or dry leaves does not take place.
In South Garo Hills, two villages in were declared containment zones on Friday subsequent to the detection of 17 COVID-19 cases.
While nine cases were detected from Siju Dajong, eight cases were reported from Siju Damikgittim.
Meanwhile, the DC has assured of timely distribution of essential items to the villages.
