Guwahati: Two teenagers drowned in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district on Thursday even as floods, caused by incessant rains in bordering Arunachal Pradesh, wreaked havoc in the eastern districts.

Officials sources from Tinsukia said a boat carrying seven people overturned while crossing a stream at Dhola. While five of the people managed to swim to safety, two youths, both students of Doomdoma College, drowned. Their bodies were later recovered by the locals.

Close to 450 villages have been affected, impacting the lives of nearly two lakh people across the state. Nearly 20,000 people are sheltered in relief camps set up by the government in different parts of the affected areas. (UNI)
