Training programme for specially-abled persons

SHILLONG, Nov 23: The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Shillong in association with the Ministry of Tourism and supported by Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship, organised a training programme under the scheme ‘Capacity Building for Service Providers’ for the inclusive trainees from Bethany Society, Shillong, recently.
K Moses Chalai, Secretary of NEC, inaugurated the training programme as chief guest in the presence of R Lalrodingi, Adviser, (Banking, Industries and Tourism), NEC, Carmo Naroha, Executive Director of Bethany Society, BK Sohliya, Director, Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship and Banlum Blah, President of Confederation of Tourism, Meghalaya.
Addressing the trainees, Chalai exuded confidence in the specially-abled people to train their skills, adding that programmes such as this will render opportunities for themselves.
In his address, Guest of Honour Carmo Naroha, Executive Director of Bethany Society, said that this is the first time that such training is being provided to the specially abled with the objective to create employment opportunity.
In his address, BK Sohliya, Director of Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship, said unlike the general perception, the specially-abled people do not have limited opportunities. “In fact, if provided with proper opportunities, they too can do well in life,” Sohliya said, while assuring to extend every possible help.
On the other hand, Banlum Blah stated that the tourism sector looks forward to employ the specially-abled in future.
