Guwahati: Year’s fourth wave of flood has affected over 4.15 people in 13 districts of Assam while 1.8 lakh people have been affected alone in the worst affected Tinsukia district in eastern Assam.
According to an official source, three columns of Army personnel were pressed into action for flood relief and rescue operations at Dhola, Barekuri and Sadiya in Tinsukia district of eastern Assam.
The administration has set up 60 relief camps to shelter flood-hit people in the district. Two units of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in the distroct while the third unit is on the way.
Dibru-Saikhowa National Park in Tinsukia district has been inundated by flood waters of Brahmaputra River while Sadiya in eastern most Assam has been cut off because of suspension of ferry service.
Alert has been sounded in Kaziranga National Park in central Assam as the level of Brahmaputra River was flowing above red mark in most part of eastern Assam.
With flood waters entering the Park, instances of flood-hit Park animals crossing the National High Way to the South of the Park have been reported.
The Park authority has regulated the speed of vehicle passing through the National Highway stretch passing by the Park by issuing time card to vehicles.
The other 13 districts affected by the flood included Baksa, Barpeta, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh,
Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Udalguri and Sonitpur. Total 817 villages in 33 revenue circles have been affected by the flood so far in this wave.
The Flood water has breached four embankments one each at Sivasagar, Jorhat, Kamrup and Dibrugarh districts. Ferry service to Majuli river island in Jorhat district in eastern Assam has been suspended because of rising level of water in Brahmaputra River.
