Shillong: The Shillong Traffic Police has informed that the Jacob’s ladder (Pomdngiem) road in Laitumkhrah will temporarily remain ‘closed’ from Monday, due to the ongoing culvert laying project by the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

Informing this here on Saturday, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Herbert G Lyngdoh said that with the completion of the first phase of the project, the MUDA will start digging along the Jacob’s ladder road for lying of the culvert. “Hence, for this purpose, all vehicles are not allowed to ply from this road till the project is completed,” he added.

He also informed that the “no-entry” imposed earlier along the road from Dhankheti Point to Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah from 7.30 am to 9.30 am has been lifted. “Vehicles can now ply from Dhankheti and enter Laitumkhrah,” the ASP said.

Taking into consideration, the plight of parents who have to drop their children to schools like St Anthony’s, St Mary’s, St Margaret’s schools, he said, “Vehicles for this purpose will be allowed to come up from Lower Lachumiere Hopkinson’s Road”.

They were however directed to take left on reaching Don Bosco Hall and go towards the road that leads to St Anthony’s College. “Similarly, vehicles will be allowed to come up from Boyce Road”, he said.

He further informed that once the entire project is completed, traffic regulations will be reverted as earlier.
