SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP), in its core committee meeting held on Saturday, asked the State Government to immediately reduce the tax on petroleum products, specially diesel even as it demanded that the subsidy on LPG per household per year to be raised from 6 to 10 cylinders.

NPP State unit president Dr WR Kharlukhi said the hike in the price of diesel has directly affected the ‘aam admi’ in Meghalaya since the price of all commodities has gone up following the hike.

The NPP also expressed its disappointment over the lack of sincerity on the part of the State Government to solve the long-pending boundary dispute.

“Even after the meeting of the all the political parties and the NGOs with the State Government regarding the border dispute, the Government has not taken any pro active step to implement any of the suggestions that were given during the course of the meeting,” Dr Kharlukhi said.

The NPP also expressed concern over the illegal influx of Bangladeshis into the State.

“Though the Government has taken note of the problems, there seems to be no action at the ground level. Because of the inaction of the Congress Government in the State, at times even genuine citizens of the State are facing difficulties and problems,” he said.

The NPP demanded that immediate steps should be taken by the Government to check influx.
