MLCU holds international webinar on cultural heritage

SHILLONG, Nov 28: The Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) organised an international webinar on ‘Cultural Heritage: A Way Forward’ to commemorate the World Heritage Week.
According to a statement, the webinar was organised by the university’s Department of Tourism and Travel Management on November 19, 24 and 25.
The inaugural session was attended by director of Tourism department,
Cyril D Diengdoh, as the chief guest, who emphasised on the need to take steps to preserve as well as propagate knowledge about the rich natural and cultural heritage in Meghalaya.
Diengdoh also talked about the various steps taken by the Tourism department to safeguard the sites of cultural significance.
On November 24, the day was dedicated to the rich cultural heritage of state where presentations were made on the important sites of cultural significance in the state. A special presentation was also made on Kongthong, popularly known as ‘whistling village’.
On the final day, topical experts delivered detailed presentations on subjects such as problems in identifying cultural heritage, importance of safeguarding cultural heritage, and the significance of a UNESCO recognition in mobilising cultural heritage sites as tourist destinations.
As part of the commemoration, students were also engaged in various programs on different themes of heritage preservation. In addition, open-to-all online sketching and photography competitions were also organised.
