IAF rescue 39 marooned persons

Itanagar: Altogether 39 marooned people, including 12 children, who were stranded between the branches of the Lohit River at Tezu in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh since last four days were rescued by Indian Air Force on Saturday.

All the rescued were shifted to relief camp and to their respective relatives, according to official sources here on Sunday.

However, 75 people were also rescued by the administration at Sunpura with the help of country-boat and sheltered them at relief camp. Seeing the grim situation of flood in the district, additional stock of food grains was dispatched to Sunpura.

Total relief camps operating in the various circles of the district are 19, sources said.

Flood water of Denning and Tezukhola inundated Tezu Township, government quarters, Krick and Boury School and private residential building, surface communication, water supply, electricity remains disrupted for the fourth successive day on Saturday at district headquarters.People are facing acute shortage of essential commodities in the district.

As an immediate measure, about 25 quintals of rice have been distributed to the major affected areas at Bolung and Abali Villages and medicines were also sent to the PHCs in order to contain any outbreak of post flood epidemics. Drinking water was also sent through tankers by the PHE Department to relief camps. (UNI)
