Itanagar: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi told Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki that the Centre was aware of the worsening flood situation in his state and assured that a Central team would soon be sent to take stock of the flood damages, according to sources here on Sunday.

She assured all possible help from the Centre to repair damages caused by sudden floods when Mr Tuki, along with state’s AICC in charge Dhaniram Shandil called on her on Saturday in Delhi with a plea for immediate assessment of devastation caused by the nature’s worst fury and Central aid to overcome the crisis.

Mr Tuki also apprised the UPA chief of the initiatives of state’s Congress government to uplift the living standard of the common mass through judicious and transparent implementation of all Central government and government of Arunachal Pradesh (GoAP) programmes and projects and reiterated him commitment of a ‘People’s government’ in the state for all times to come, sources informed.

The Chief Minister further expressed gratitude to the leadership of Ms Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for their continuous support and cooperation to the land-locked people.

Ms Gandhi also promised to visit the state in the later part of October with AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi in response to a plea by the chief minsiter.

Later, Mr Tuki called on Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid and urged him to consider establishment of an independent high court for Arunachal Pradesh.

Mr Tuki who was accompanied by Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjoy briefed Mr Khurshid on the number of cases of the state pending with the judiciary and the impact of the delay on the people as well as the GoAP.

Judiciary would become efficient and deliver speedy justice to the people by setting up an independent high court, the chief minsiter reasoned, sources added. (UNI)
