TURA, Dec 4: The monsoon season has long gone and winter has set in but the roads remain in water. This is the plight of the Phulbari to Dadenggre road in the plain belt of West Garo Hills.
Frustrated with the lack of any repairs, the All Meghalaya Minorities Students Union has petitioned Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to direct concerned department and officials to take urgent steps into repairing of the road which is the only link road towards the hill areas of Dadenggre civil sub-division.
“There have been several accidents due to the condition of the road and vast amounts of water from the rainy season remains on the road with no work undertaken to remove it and restore the condition,” complained leaders of the minority students’ body in their complaint to the chief minister.
With lack of repairs the puddles on the road have turned into craters filled with hundreds of gallons of water making it a herculean task to negotiate, particularly for small vehicles and two wheelers.
The Tikrikilla-Chibinang-Phulbari-Rajabala road stretch has long been in need of repairs and with delays in restoration even the adjoining routes to other areas have begun facing a similar situation of damage.
