SHILLONG: Caught in a fresh controversy following errors in the question paper for the recruitment of Research Assistant in the Department of Programme Implementation and Evaluation, the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) has blamed the Guwahati based publication agency for the goof up.

Errors were detected in ‘Series III’ of the question booklet with omission in the serial number and double entry of a question number.

While assuring candidates that due care would be taken to ensure that the errors do not affect their prospects in the examination, the MPSC said that the mistakes were committed by the publication agency based at Guwahati which was given the responsibility to print the booklets.

Stating that there is no room for manipulation, MPSC Secretary R Rapthap said, “The question papers came in sealed packets from the professors and were sent to the agency. Therefore, it was hard to detect the errors.”

He said the Commission would take up the matter with the concerned agency.

He further said that the Commission could seek adjustments in the software meant to evaluate the OMR answer sheets of Series III. “Adjustments will be made in the software or we could also go for manual checking if necessary,” he said.

Incidentally, this is the second time that the Commission is in the news for the wrong reason after there was a shortage of question papers for the candidates appearing for the same examination on July 28.
