SHILLONG, Dec 5: Former MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, known for initiating the clean politics movement campaign, has asked the state government to conduct an independent probe into all allegations of corruption reported during the tenure of the MDA Government.
The statement of the former MLA assumes significance as repeated allegations of corruption and irregularities have been made on different fronts such as the Power sector, autonomous district councils and even illegal transportation of coal.
Despite the growing demand, the government has remained defiant on ordering a probe into the allegations.
“As the saying goes, that there cannot be smoke without fire. I don’t think these are mere allegations made without basis,” Basaiawmoit said, while pointing out that media reports are filled with allegations of corruption and the government is duty bound to order a probe.
“I believe there must be some truth in these allegations otherwise how can there be so much talk on corruption,” he argued.
