Tongkhar inaugurates sanitation complex in Mawkyrwat

MAWKYRWAT, Dec 6: PHE Minister Renikton L Tongkhar, on Saturday, inaugurated the Community Sanitation Complex at Mawkyrwat Market, South West Khasi Hills.
The complex was funded by the District Swachh Bharat Mission (DSBM) through the PHE department as well as contribution made by the Sankur Rikynti Khain Nonglang & Mawkyrwat Hat.
Speaking on the occasion, Tongkhar, who is also the MLA of Mawkyrwat, urged upon people visiting Mawkyrwat Market to use public toilets so that the prestige of South West Khasi Hills as an open defecation free (ODF) district can be maintained.
He also asked the management of Sankur Rikynti Khain Nonglang & Mawkyrwat Hat to ensure that water is available at all times in the public toilets.
Speaking about the memorandum submitted by the Sankur Rikynti Khain Nonglang & Mawkyrwat Hat, the MLA-cum-minister assured that the black topping of the parking lot in Mawkyrwat Market will be carried out soon and the street lights work has already been sanctioned and will be available within this month. With regard to water connection to public toilets, Tongkhar urged the Executive Engineer of PHE, S Snaitang, to take up the matter seriously.
