City school shines at virtual choir competition

SHILLONG, Dec 6: In what can be termed a proud achievement for the state, the KC Lights and the KC Lights – The Family, the school choir of KC Secondary School, Shilling, have bagged two gold medals in the World Virtual Choir Festival 2, organised by the Bandung Choral Society, Bandung, Indonesia.
As many as 72 choirs from 14 countries had participated in the competition organised from December 1 to 6.
There were seven categories – Children’s Choir, Youth Choir, Pop and Jazz, Mixed Choir, Folklore, Sacred Music and Christmas song.
For this competition, a junior choir (KC Lights), consisting of children aged 6 to 13 years of KC Secondary School and KC Lights – The Family, consisting of senior students and the past pupils of the School, participated in the Children’s Choir and Pop and Jazz categories, respectively.
KC Lights performed the song “You Say” while KC Lights – The Family performed the song “Africa” and bagged gold medals in both events.
The judges for the competition were from the U.K., U.S.A., South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Italy and Indonesia.
For the competition, the participants practised at home while the audio recording as well as video shooting was done in a make-shift studio set up on the school premises.
