NONGSTOIN: Pynskh-emlang Nongshlong, who recently hit the headlines by holding fast demanding a permanent solution to border dispute with Assam at Langpih and later at Nongstoin, has decided to resume his fast-unto-death from October 16.

“The Government’s insincerity to resolve the border row has compelled me to launch my second phase of agitation,” Nongshlong announced on Monday.

Nongshlong on Monday called on the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills S Kharlyngdoh to enquire if the government had taken any steps in response to his demands.

The 28-year-old youth from Rambrai village in West Khasi Hills district, bordering Assam’s Kamrup district had launched indefinite fast from June 30 along with a few other Khasi villagers demanding solution to the three-decade-old vexed border dispute between the two neighbouring states. He suspended his agitation on July 18 for two months.

He also condemned Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh for breaking his promises time and again. He said he had submitted a memorandum and was given the assurance that the matter would be looked into but so far nothing has been done.

He also condemned the Govt for only pursuing the perpetrators of the fire incident at Jirang and not paying heed to the actual cause that led to the fire.

Regarding the venue of his proposed agitation, Nongshlong said the place was yet to be decided. He however, indicated three probable places — Shillong, Block I and Block II.
