CM inspirits youths to send in suggestions for govt

SHILLONG, Dec 11: Calling upon the youths of the state, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, on Friday, encouraged them to send their ideas and suggestions through emails, letters and various other platforms to the to the government.
The chief minister was virtually speaking at an interactive session on the Meghalaya State Youth Policy, organised by the Sports and Youth Affairs department, at the State Convention Centre here on Friday.
The much-awaited policy is expected to be rolled out in the month of January, 2021, and will be implemented in the upcoming financial year.
Addressing the gathering through video conferencing, the chief minister Conrad K Sangma stated that the policy will act as a podium for the youths to interact with the government and share their views and opinions in taking the state forward.
The policy reflects the government’s objectives and the youths’ interest and also incorporates various aspects including sports, education and entrepreneurship among others, he added.
Commissioner and Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs department, Dr Vijay Kumar D, during his presentation, said that Meghalaya is among the top states in India with large youth population. With 65 per cent of the population under 35 years of age, the need for a youth policy is eminent, he said, adding that the policy will act as a forum for training and skilling the youths.
During the event, the Meghalaya Youth Survey Portal was also launched by the chief minister.
Three prominent sportspersons from Meghalaya – Jidalin Tympuin from West Khasi Hills, Batsrang Sangma from West Garo Hills and Sunday Morning Tariang from West Jaintia Hills – were awarded with the Chief Minister’s Sportspersons of the Month award.
