SHILLONG: Police allegedly detained the doctor-in-charge of Chokpot PHC Dr WN Sangma on Tuesday evening for no fault of his own.

Sources informed that the doctor was detained after he requested the police to remove their vehicles which were parked inside the PHC.

Police handcuffed the doctor and took him to the Chokpot police station, sources said, adding that the constables detained Dr Sangma on their own without any instruction from any senior officer.

Meanwhile, taking strong exception over the incident, the Meghalaya Medical Service Association (MMSA) general secretary Dr Aman War has threatened to launch an agitation opposing wrongful detention of its member.

He informed that the executive committee of the Association would meet on Wednesday to discuss the issue.
