SHILLONG, Dec 12: Senior Congress leader Charles Pyngrope, a frontrunner for the post of MPCC president, appears to relish the competition for the job.
“The Congress has no dearth of leaders and more contenders for the post is always good for the party,” he said.
Apart from Pyngrope, Ampareen Lyngdoh is being tipped to succeed Celestine Lyngdoh, who has expressed his desire not to continue as the MPCC president.
“We should respect his call and when the incumbent wishes not to continue, it would be in the fitness of things to look for another person to head the party,” Pyngrope said. He also said that the party’s central leadership has not issued any direction for starting
the groundwork for the election of the state unit president. The high command, he added, may hold the election specifically for Meghalaya or for all the states together.
“Any member of the party who is registered has the right to file nomination for the election,” Pyngrope said.
Congress Legislature Party leader Mukul Sangma had earlier said that the matter would be discussed internally and decided as per the constitution of the party.
