Fraudster apprehended

SHILLONG: One fraudster — Himon Malang — was apprehended by the Hynniewtrep National People’s Front (HNPF) from Saw furlong area at Polo here on Monday.

Malang (27) from Mawmylliang village in East Jaintia Hills, who claimed to be a Forest Ranger Officer, managed to dupe many people by promising them government jobs while asking Rs 8000 to 10,000 from each person.

After collecting a total amount of around Rs 17 lakh, Malang rushed to Shillong for hiding but unfortunately after a month of hideout, he was nabbed by the HNPF on Wednesday at around 1pm.

During interrogation, Malang informed that he had spent the money on gambling and bought a new Maruti Car (ML 05 H 2945).

It may be informed here that Malang had been arrested thrice in 2007, 2008 and 2009 for the same crime. He has been taken to Jowai for further questioning after which he will be handed over to the police.
