GUWAHATI: A children’s park in memory of martyred jawan, Mritunjoy Chutia will be set up at his native Geluwa village at Sisiborgaon in Dhemaji district.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal made this announcement during a visit to the martyr’s residence on Monday.

The park will be set up near the martyr’s samadhi kshetra (cremation site), an official statement informed.

The 25-year-old jawan, a constable of the 115 battalion, was on district development council (DDC) election duty when he was martyred in a terrorist attack at Ganderbal in Jammu and Kashmir recently.

Sonowal offered floral tribute to the portrait of the martyr. He also handed over a cheque for Rs 20 lakh as financial assistance to the martyr’s family.

The chief minister further informed that necessary directions in this regard have been given to the Dhemaji deputy commissioner.

“The state is proud of the gallantry of martyr Mritunjoy Chutia who sacrificed his life to safeguard the country’s unity and sovereignty. The sacrifice of the martyr will not go in vain as the state and the country as a whole is committed to work resolutely to the safety, security and development of the nation,” he told media persons later.
