SHILLONG: The breakaway faction of the Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) has now decided jump into the poll bandwagon by planning to mobilize a democratic front ahead of the 2013 State election and organizing mass awareness on adult franchise and democratic rights.
The ANVC (B) has also declared a non-cooperation movement against the legislators of Garo Hills and GHADC chief PK Sangma.
In a statement issued here on Monday, the ANVC (B) said bandhs and other democratic protests have failed to make any impact on the Government and so the outfit will initiate mass awareness on adult franchise and democratic rights.
The outfit also castigated the lack of efforts and non performance of the Garo Hills based legislators, saying, “The elected representatives of Garo Hills do not consider Garo Hills issues as a matter of their concern.”
The outfit stated that the negligence of the representatives has inspired many youths to ‘opt for a change’ by joining revolutionary group since they have lost faith in their elected leaders.
It may be mentioned that the outfit had, earlier, given deadlines to the MLAs and the GHADC chief to work for the betterment of the Garo Hills.
The outfit also claimed that 2013 election will prove the stand of the Garo Hills youths as the present political lineup is about to face a drastic change.
The outfit also took a dig at the State Government while accusing it of violating the internal agreement signed between the two parties. “The Government must stop the back stabbing game and be sincere in its commitments,” the outfit added.
