TURA, Dec 29: After several months of calm, car lifters are once again raising their ugly heads in Tura with one motorcycle reported stolen on the night of December 26 from the Fancy Valley area.
The owner, who hails from Chandmari locality of Tura, had parked his motorbike (ML08 D 6578) near the Durga Puja Mandap at Fancy Valley on that fateful night when thieves lifted it away. Police have registered a case and attempts are being made to locate the vehicle and bring to book the perpetrators of the crime.
It may be noted that the lockdown had resulted in almost zero cases of car lifting. As the lockdown restrictions began to ease, an interstate gang behind a series of car and bike thefts was traced out by West Garo Hills Police and arrests were made in both Garo Hills and Assam side of the border.
Despite the large scale arrests, new elements are believed to have surfaced.
