SHILLONG: In wake of the ongoing border dispute between Assam and other northeastern states including Meghalaya, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has favoured a joint effort on part of the concerned states to resolve the inter-state border dispute.
Dr Sangma said this after meeting Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen (retd) JJ Singh, who is on a two-day visit to the State, here on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister said the respective states including Assam need to have an honest intention to solve the vexed boundary row.
“We must have some joint engagement in the best interest of the country in order to resolve the problem,” Dr Sangma said.
It may be mentioned that Assam has boundary disputes with Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
While referring to the disputed areas of Block 1 and 2 along with Langpih, the Chief Minister said the same yardstick cannot be applied to resolve the issues in all the disputed areas.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Governor JJ Singh said that inter-state boundary disputes should be resolved in a way that addresses the concerns of the people.
During the meeting, both the Chief Minister and the Governor also discussed the law and order situation in their respective states.
Ways and means to promote tourism in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya were also discussed.
