SHILLONG, Jan 14: Former Nongkrem MLA, Ardent Basaiawmoit, has suggested the state government to consider making investment in infrastructure in a way to develop tourism while also maintaining that the Inner Line Permit (ILP) will not affect tourism prospect in the state.
Speaking to reporters during the release of a pamphlet of the Revolution Iada ia ka Ri, he said, “The government should create more infrastructure and develop hospitality measures”.
With regard to Shillong MP Vincent Pala’s statement of tourism getting affected, Basaiawmoit said public representatives should read the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873, before they speak. “They should, before they speak, take a look at the states that have implemented (ILP),” he said.
He also suggested the government to invest in infrastructure in Sohra and Shella where the road condition is deplorable. “We are talking about regulating the entry and exit point,” he said, adding that the entry and exit point is only meant to hoodwink the people.
With regard to the pamphlets, he said they will be distributed among the public to disseminate awareness on clean politics, the need for unity, ILP, Khasi values, hygiene and sanitation, uranium mining etc.
