SHILLONG: The Chairman of ANVC(B) Rimpu Marak has called for “unity among all the tribes to fight against infiltrators.”
In a statement issued here on Friday, Marak said that all tribals protected under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution must unite against infiltrators, who are crossing the borders at an alarming rate.
“There is a visible rise of infiltrators in not less than eight constituencies of Garo Hills and they are sure to double in coming years, which means we will lose the reservation of Assembly seats as some will become general seats”, Marak said.
According to the ANVC leader, the current trend is a well-planned policy by the vested interest groups aiming at bringing imbalance to the tribal population which will in turn result in demographic changes.
Marak alleged that there are as many as 12 politicians who are encouraging illegal settlements in Garo Hills, making them their permanent vote bank.
The ANVC leader urged people not to rent houses, lease out lands to people without proof of origin.
