Washington: Former US First Lady Betty Ford has died at the age of 93, the Director of the Ford Museum and Library has confirmed.

The cause of the death has not been confirmed yet, Fox News reports.

Betty, the wife of former president Gerald Ford, who married him two weeks before he was elected to his first term in Congress, served as First Lady of the United States from 1974-1977. “I was deeply saddened this afternoon when I heard of Betty Ford”s death. She has been an inspiration to so many through her efforts to educate women about breast cancer and her wonderful work at the Betty Ford Center,” fellow former first lady Nancy Reagan said in a statement.

Former president George H. W. Bush also released a statement saying: “Barbara and I loved Betty Ford very much. She was a wonderful wife and mother; a great friend; and a courageous First Lady.” (IANS)
