JOWAI: The All Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF), East Jaintia Hills district has demanded the appointment of a District Labour Officer in the area.

The JYF in its memorandum to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma stated that the Labour Department has failed to function properly in the absence of an officer.

The JYF also informed that prior to the creation of the East Jaintia Hills District, the sub-office of the Labour Department was set up to look after all official works of the Department in the erstwhile Khliehriat Sub-Division. But even after the creation of the new district, the Labour Department based at West Jaintia Hills continued to look after the official works of East Jaintia Hills even as the State Labour Department authorities did not take any step to upgrade the existing office in the district.
