DLSA holds legal awareness prog

TURA, Jan 29: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Garo Hills, in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit on Friday organised a one-day legal awareness programme at Dobu.
During the programme, Dr Jevi R Marak, who was the resource person, spoke about teenage pregnancy and itsdisadvantages while Talse M Sangma, advocate, dwelt at length on Probation of Child Marriage Act and POCSO, etc.
Protection Officer, Mamun K Marak, while delivering the introductory speech highlighted the activities of the District Child Protection Unit.
Others who also spoke on the occasion include Chief Judicial Magistrate Evaline Shabong, secretary of DLSA and protection officer, Mamun K Marak.
Meanwhile, an amount of Rs one lakh under Victim Compensation Scheme was disbursed by the DLSA in South Garo Hills at Baghmara on Thursday.
The statement issued in this regard also urged the victims or kin, who have suffered loss or injury as a result of crime and who require rehabilitation, financial assistance and support, to avail the benefits under the scheme.
