New Delhi: The final draft legislation to prohibit unfair practices in school education will finally come up next month with the sub-committee of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) giving final touches to the same.
The draft Legislation has almost reached its final stage, State Education Minister Prof RC Laloo, who is a part of the sub-committee of the CABE, said on Wednesday. Deliberations on various issues ranging from the contentious no-detention policy and continuous and comprehensive evaluation programme apart from regulation of malpractices in the schools took place during the meeting.
The draft legislation mainly concerns the regulation of malpractices in school education process to students belonging in the age group of 4-17. For this the CABE will finally meet on November 1, before putting up the draft legislation for approval.
Many other issues like prohibition of imposing or collecting fees more than the amount prescribed for a particular session, right process and criteria to be adopted while appointing teachers, maintaining education standards, protection of specific rights and reforms of children as per the duly specified norms were discussed during the meet.
Transparency in admissions, mandatory disclosure of fees, staff and admission procedure, prohibition of imposing fees in case of prospectus, insistence on purchase of books, uniforms, stationery from a particular shop or a shop notified for this purpose, were also discussed.
The CABE sub-committee also took views of the other state education ministers present during the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Union Minister of State for Human Resources, D Purandareswari.
Besides Prof Laloo, Karnataka Education Minister Vishwashareyya Hegde, Delhi Education Minister, Dr Kiran Walia and various education experts from all over the country attended the meeting.
