SHILLONG, Feb 6: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, scheduled to leave for New Delhi on Sunday, will meet 15 Union ministers to discuss various issues including that of the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
There are speculations that he will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to take the ILP issue forward, although the meeting has not been confirmed.
“I will meet close to 15 ministers to discuss issues ranging from political and road construction to tourism and water resources,” the Chief Minister told media persons on Saturday.
He said the state government would pursue the pressing issues on which resolutions have been passed.
Sangma’s trip to New Delhi assumes significance as Shah, during his visit to Shillong in January, had asked the state cabinet to call on him in the national capital for discussing the ILP issue.
It is learnt that Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong is already in New Delhi and the Chief Minister’s Office is in touch with the Ministry of Home Affairs to seek an appointment for the state cabinet ministers and leaders of pressure groups with Shah.
The demand for implementing ILP in the state gained momentum after the Centre passed the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and approved ILP for Manipur.
Sangma has met Shah at least thrice but the Centre is yet to make its stand on granting ILP to the state clear.
