Order to limit noise pollution in city

SHILLONG, Feb 8: In view of the reported use of banned air horns and modified silencers in vehicles, the District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting high-density air horns, sale of public audio systems without sound limiters, honking or blowing of horns in silence zones (area comprising not less than 100 metres around hospitals, educational institutions, courts, religious places etc), honking of horns during night hours (between 10 pm and 6 am) in residential areas except during public emergency as well as continuous honking of air horns by garbage collection vehicles.
The order added that action will be taken on any violation or non-compliance.
