SHILLONG, Feb 9: State BJP vice president, Bernard N Marak, has alleged that the Supreme Court’s order on load limit is being violated openly in Garo Hills.
BJP leaders from Garo Hills visited the West, East and North Garo Hills on Monday to take stock of the improvements of national highways – NH 51 and 62.
The road connecting Tura and Guwahati is being repaired by the PWD department after the BJP members mended the pot holes between Tura and Jengjal. “The roads are better but the overloaded trucks running on these roads are damaging the roads the day after the work is done,” Marak said.
The BJP leader stated that in Tura, overloaded trucks plying through the town at night have damaged the road near Civil Surgeon office where cracks are visible and it has turned into an accident-prone area.
He also said that along NH-62, overloaded trucks are seen parked near the highway covered with tarpaulins, adding that these trucks are carrying coal without challan weighing not less than 20 metric tonnes in violation of the apex court’s order. “Illegal transportation of coal continues in Garo Hills and political leaders are openly involved in corruption by ravaging the Garo Hills roads,” he said.
