SHILLONG: Newly appointed State NCP president Sanbor Shullai has informed that the party is contemplating to contest from as many constituencies as possible in the 2013 State polls.

“At the moment we are planning to contest in at least 40 Assembly constituencies,” Shullai said on Friday, a day after taking over as the new NCP State president.

According to him, the picture would be clearer once the party begins to issue application forms for the party ticket.

Shullai, however, claimed that there are many leaders from the UDP and Congress who have verbally sought for the party ticket in case they were denied tickets from their respective parties.

“I have told them they would have to formally apply for the party ticket. The final decision regarding allotment of party tickets would be taken by the party high command in Delhi,” he said.

He also expressed unhappiness over the resignation of Robert Kharshiing from the NCP.

‘Kharshiing has resigned on account of his ill health. Presently, he (Kharshiing) is undergoing treatment at CMC, Vellore,” Shullai said.
