SHILLONG, Feb 12: The Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways has directed the chief secretaries of all states including Meghalaya’s chief secretary to issue necessary directions to concerned agencies to ensure that fee collection system at all fee plazas of National Highways will be through FASTags alone.
The communication from the Ministry said that implementation of this rule would require support of the agencies of the state.
It is expected that the implementation of this rule will reduce the congestion in different toll plazas across the state, especially the Umling toll plaza on the busy Shillong-Guwahati road.
Recently, Commissioner and Secretary of Transport department had informed the public that all vehicles passing through toll plazas must be fitted with FASTag for cashless transaction starting February 15.
