First ever AITUC workers rally held

 TURA: The first ever All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) workers rally was held on Saturday at Tura District Auditorium. The rally was organized by the All Garo Hills Muster Roll Workers’ Union, All Garo Hills Anganwadhi Workers’ Association, All Garo Hills Reliance Care Taker Association, All Garo Hills Telecom Retailers’ Association, A·chik Farmers’ Association and MeECL Employers’ Union.

The rally was held to discuss and chalk out ways to seek redressal of the various grievances of the six unions and associations who organized the rally.

Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Delhi AITUC General Secretary H Mahadevan said that though laborers were treated as essential service providers their wages were minimal. He said that the present wages for laborers needed to be increased as demanded from Rs 170 to Rs 333 per day and Rs 10, 000 per month. In India some people earn Rs 333 per hour so must get the minimum wage of Rs 333 per day for laborers as demanded he stated.
