Cong to train Mahila workers for State polls

 SHILLONG: The State Mahila Congress will be carrying out a capacity building exercise with the various Mahila leaders who have been appointed as in charge at the various blocks (Assembly Constituencies in the State).

The State Mahila Congress, under the supervision of the All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) in charge of Meghalaya, Poonam Rani Wangkhen will be holding a one-day training programme to enhance the skills of the Mahila leaders in view of the upcoming 2013 Assembly election.

The AIMC has recently appointed 60 Mahila members as in charge of each block in the 60 assembly constituencies.

These 60 in charges along with Mahila leaders from the district and state office bearers will be given training at Congress Bhavan here on Monday.

According Wangkhen, the training is being organized to train the Mahila leaders to improve their organizing skills as they would be responsible to hold the party meetings during the election campaign.

“We would also be teaching the Mahila leaders on the skills of coordinating with the various frontal wings of the party including the Mahila Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC),” AIMC general secretary in charge of Meghalaya said here on Sunday.

She also informed that they are also expected to train the Mahila leaders on the issue of protocol while adding that Mahila leaders would be acting as liaison officers at the block level.

“The Mahila leaders would have to handle the VIPs who are visiting the respective blocks,” Wangkhen said.

While emphasizing on the importance of having a team work within the party, the AIMC general secretary said that this issue of team work is very critical for the success of the party in the upcoming election.

“The assertiveness of women in playing key role for the success party is needed besides commitment and sincerity in our own work,” the AIMC leader stressed.

After the training, Bhatia hopped that the trained Mahila members would be able to handle their job in a professional way.
