SHILLONG, Feb 21: The Meghalaya High Court has disposed of a PIL filed that had sought the declaration of three autonomous district councils as illegal and unconstitutional.
The PIL was filed by MN Syiem in 2015 before the High Court of Meghalaya.
The matter came up for final hearing on February 19 before the Division Bench of the High Court and after hearing parties, the High Court was not inclined to accept the stand of the petitioner.
Confirming that the PIL has been disposed of by the High Court, Senior Advocate VGK Kynta, who had represented the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, said, “The PIL, if allowed, will be disastrous to thousands of employees serving in the three ADCs in Meghalaya and not to speak about it, need and importance to the fragile tribal society having varied customs and practices”.
