TURA, Feb 25: A day after the Administrator to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) had directed the agitating employees to either join work or discontinue their services, the Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) of the GHADC on Thursday called the move “unfair” while suggesting that rather than taking such a decision, the authorities to should take action should against those involved in corruption.
In a statement issued here, joint secretary of the NGEA, Flaming B Marak, said that such an order against the employees, if true, was unfair as they have their fundamental right to agitate against denial of salary payment.
Marak said that instead of issuing such a directive, action should be taken against all those involved in corruption, which has led to this situation in the Council.
He also rejected Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s claim that an amount of Rs 46.57 crore has been released to the GHADC.
Dissent
The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) has, meanwhile, sounded objection to the reports on the allotment of party tickets to non-tribals, while demanding their immediate withdrawal
“We demand a separate electoral roll for the GHADC as well as the immediate withdrawal of non-tribal candidates by parties. If they fail to heed to our demands, we will take future course of action,” the students’ body said.
