SHILLONG, Feb 26: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai has condemned the recent assault on a group of labourers in South West Khasi Hills, while demanding immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
In a statement on Friday, Shullai said the “extremely sad and barbaric incident” has projected a very poor image of the state of affairs.
“This act is nothing but a show of cowardice by a group of individuals who try to prove their valour by harming, hurting and even taking the lives of the innocent. The culprit should be booked immediately and justice be delivered to the victims. Such acts and people should not be tolerated by our or any other civil society,” Shullai said.
He also maintained that the incident has tarnished the image of Meghalaya as a tourist-friendly state.
The MLA also requested the state government to provide compensation to the family of the victims.
UDP condemnation
Meanwhile, the United Democratic Party (UDP) on Friday also condemned the assault meted out to the labourers.
“Such acts of violence are not to be tolerated and the law should run its course to deliver justice,” UDP vice president, AF Dkhar, said.
