NONGSTOIN, Feb 28: Leaders of the youth Congress, previously strong supporters of Nongstoin MDC, Gabriel Wahlang, who contested the last MDC polls here, have joined the National People’s Party (NPP) in Nongstoin providing the party a political boost.
More than 22 youths from Pyndengrei unit of the Congress youth wing have agreed to join the NPP.
The proposition was formally accepted by Nongstoin MLA, Macmillan Byrsat, who is also the president of NPP, Nongstoin Block.
The members of Youth Congress from Pyndengrei Primary Unit, who joined the NPP, are Kynsaibor Kharbani, president of the unit, Bestarjohn Lyngkhoi, secretary of the unit, and 20 other members.
Expressing happiness over the development, Macmillan Byrsat stated that the party has enrolled them as full-fledged members. “The door of NPP is always open and the party will accept anyone who wants to join (NPP) for development in Nongstoin,” he said, while briefing the new members about the main objective of the party.
Byrsat said as the MLA of Nongstoin, he has completed 99.9 per cent of the election manifesto during the last election.
During the last three years as an MLA, I have ushered in development in the constituency in terms of road connectivity, water supply and other developmental works, which is still under progress, he said, adding that he hopes that the new members will work hand in hand to bring a change in the constituency and the district as a whole.
Speaking during their induction as NPP members, former president of Congress’ Pyndengrei youth wing, Kynsaibor Kharbani, said that the development in Nongstoin as a result of the efforts of the MLA along with the state government made him join the NPP.
While exuding confidence in the leadership of Byrsat, Kharbani said that during the last three years, he has witnessed Nongstoin progress as a district. Echoing the views of Kharbani, former Pyndengrei Youth Congress general secretary Bestarjohn Lyngkhoi said that for many years people from outside the district were appointed for jobs in various government offices, which changed after Byrsat became the MLA of Nongstoin.
